This week was filled with some new things to help us stay connected along our journey. We all started twitter pages in order to help us process what is happening to us throughout the days and our journey as a whole. If we don't take the time to stop and truly understand what is going on in our lives, then we will miss a lot of valuable opportunities to learn. In addition to our tweeting, we learned about the idea of "locking in." Locking in is focusing on the task at hand and not allowing ourselves to be distracted by our surroundings. There are times when we don't need to be locked in and times when it is imperative to do so.

This week we started to get into some more serious topics in an effort to more fully understand our faith and the God who we either accept or deny. We began by talking about God's existence and whether or not God can exist in a world where He must coexist with evil. We did some worksheets, read an academic paper on the subject, and ultimately made our own opinion when we wrote our own paper. We also delved into reconciliation on Friday when we heard about some meaningful stories from Drez and had the opportunity to take the sacrament of reconciliation.

Marci chose to do her reflection on crisis because she recently experienced a crisis when her dog Tessa had trouble delivering her puppies. Marci applied what we have been learning in class to the situation, so the crisis became an opportunity for faith development.

So I recorded this video on the topic of identity, because I think it's something that everyone is constantly searching for. This makes it important. People innately want to know who they are and what their purpose is in life, but very few truly understand what this is. I reflect on what we did on identity in class and then give my own opinion on how outward and inward identity differ and how we are all constantly searching to find ourself...Cojo will be attaching the video because it's on his computer.

The Christian God is known to be “all knowing, all powerful, and all good”. The existence of evil disproves this idea because he cannot be all three of these things if evil exists. If God were all good, he wouldn’t allow there to be evil. Because he is supposed to be all knowing, he would find a way to have people do good and live purely without having evil as well. He would figure out a way to have good in the world without evil following suit. And if there were evil in the world somehow someway, God being “all powerful” would be able to rid the word of evil.

There are two types of evil. One type is immoral evil, which is created by humans as a result of free choice. This can be classified as breaking the Commandments. Another type of evil is morally neutral evil, which is a test from God to see his faith in Him. An example of this would be a natural disaster that destroys homes.

Another intepretation of evil is that it is a part of human nature that stems from greed, and therefore humans create evil, God doesn't.

A third interpretation was that religion creates evil because it causes differences, which often lead to war.

Evil can also be spread by good men doing nothing, and by doing nothing to stop this evil, these people are just as culpable as those that have committed the evil acts.

A nonreligious interpretation of evil is that it actually doesn't exist but it's an interpretation humans put to actions they don't understand.

Identity is a very important factor in someone’s life. To go on your journey in life, you have to know who you are. A lot of people are still trying to find out who they are in life. Identity is who you are in life. Find one’s “self” can be a challenge. There are many obstacles in life, but people fight through them so they can find their identity. No matter who you are, everyone has an identity no matter what. There are just a lot of people still searching for it.

Week of March 9-13th

This week we focused on evil and its existence. We looked at how Jesus described evil, how evil is present in our own lives, and most importantly, how we can overcome it. We also focused on who God says we are and we found passages in the Bible that explained humanity. A highlight of the week was when we called Mr. Melendrez's father and got his perspective on evil and how to overcome it with positive "seeds" that we should plant plant in our lives three times a day to achieve our goals. We also focused on our purpose and what we were put on this planet to do. Overall, it was another awesome week!!

Week of February 23-27

This week, we spent a lot of time reflecting upon our strengths and weaknesses. Our Cojo wasn't here to guide us, but we continued on our journey. For our strengths, we reflected upon their uses, possible uses, and their development. It was difficult to think of five strengths because we can often find it hard to complement ourselves, but it is essential to our growth to acknowledge our successes as well as our shortcomings. More importantly, however, was finding our weaknesses. We discussed how they are problematic and keep us from success. We shared how we individually cope with our weakness and how we can transform our weakness into strengths. We then reflected on how our weaknesses affect our relationships and if we think we can overcome them. As a class, we acknowledged how important it is to understand our weaknesses so that we can cope with them. It was a big week for reflection on ourselves and our morals and how we live.

This week we focused on looking deeper into personal faith. We practiced our faith when we went on a trip around school to find keys to the classroom. This activity was similar to Jesus' time spent in the desert when his faith was tested by the Devil's temptations. Later we wrote our spiritual autobiography, which helped outline our faith and find out the factors that developed faith. Next we completed the worksheet "Faith Level" which discussed the different stages we encounter on the road to faith.

The Founding of the Blog: A Reflection

In true CoJo spirit, Mr. Melendrez assigned the writing group to a new and unexpected task- THE BLOG

And hence this entity was formed. The members of the writing group: Carolyn, Tiffany, Calla, Alyssa, Melissa, and Will accepted this new burden to carry on our journey. Although the group was at first unsure of their blogging abilities with Cojo's encouragement the writing group learned the new difficult skills necessary. Currently logs of previous weeks are being uploaded onto the blog, which has been christened "Tracking the Journey". This blog will become a record of our journey.

Week of February 17-20

This week we finished A Walk to Remember and analyzed the journey taken by the characters in the movie. We had started watching this movie on Valentine's day when Cojo was gone. the movie was about one man's journey towards goodness and a girl, Jamie's journey towards death. They were cojos towards each other. We also discussed crises and their affects on our faith. We shared our stories with the class.

Week of February 2~6

This week we planned and organized to begin our journey. We made our own personal profiles so we could get to know each other and support one another on our journey. We began the week discussing our beliefs, religious and personal, and combined our efforts to create a class creed. We ended by discussing images of faith and prepared ourselves for the journey by studying the journeys of those in the Bible and reviewing their faith.

Today in class we began by having some brief discussion about Mr. Melendrez's time as a child and Rudy the Flyer. During these times he began to find purpose in his own life through his outward projection and the activities he participated in. We also began to explore God's views on who we are to Him and what we should do here on earth in order to fulfill our purpose. Finally, we discussed what we view as our personal purpose and how that relates to God's views for us.

Identity: Week of March 2nd - 6th

The majority of the week we have been discovering ourselves and what religion truly means to us. We watched "Bourne Identity" and drew a picture of what the road of life looks like to us personally. A guest speaker, Sister Nicole, came in and spoke to us of ministry life. We were invited to ask her questions where she proceeded to express her views of God, faith, and self-discovery within the Church. Another guest speaker was Cojo's mother via phone where we heard her opinions on motivation, determination and where life can truly take you. She told us of her life and what being true to yourself will get you in the end. This week was truly the most informative and influential thus far in the semester.
